RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
My Busshmeide decoupler has always leaked.
When putting it onto my new box Richard my Mechanic noticed that there is a missing O ring or seal in between the housing and the decoupler actuator holding plate.

I know that this is not a standard thing but if anyone has a hint or clue how to stop the leak or has a similar decoupler and knows what size O ring or seal is needed please let me know.

I got the green O ring in the picture below with the Kit but I think it's for another part of the kit.

RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
the green oring looks about right,if it does not work

get a seal with the correct ID for the shaft, have an engineer machine the casing to take the seal, you may need to remove the lip on the bracket, that looks like it is to hold the oring in place

I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid

RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
Thanks Stuart and Russel.
Somehow that green O ring has gotten lost so I'll look for a similar one and try and make it work.
Thanks for the feedback I really do appreciate it!

The decoupler shaft. The O ring fits into the recess around the shaft and is held in place by the lip on
The actuator bracket. Some of these setups do seep a little oil, as in leave a damp patch around the bracket, not dripping. To solve this you can machine the housing to take an oil seal. You need to remove the lip on the actuator bracket if fitting a seal.

RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
Got the car back today with the new box fitted.
And VERY VERY HAPPY!!
Thanks Dean.
Smooth,smooth,smooth!!!!!
Should have gone for the Ellermans Box right away, but you live and you learn.
Decoupler no longer leaks but is also not engaging 4x4 so that will be a project for next week.
After driving my 1.8 Kombi for 6 weeks its great to have the Syncro back.
Since I bought it I've...
Installed all new CV's and changed the back ones to Porsche 930.
Fitted a new starter for TDI with adapter plate for the 2.1
Had Andreno rebuild the engine
Added a Busshmeide decoupler
Changed the clutch 3 times
Had the gear box out 5 times
Now fitted reconned Ellerman's box.
Changed the rear main seal twice
Fitted Rhein Rims
Fitted a brand new OEM radiator
Fitted new expansion tank
Put in new cluster with Rev Counter
Added a Westfalia Pop Top Roof
Changed both front bearings and back right bearing.
Rebuilt sliding door with a new sliding mechanism and bearings.
Fitted brand New OEM headlights
New front upper and lower grills
New rear VW badge
Added Autowatch Alarm and immobiliser
Added smokey front indicators
Fitted new steering rack ends
Fitted new air con dryer

And it was an excellent Syncro to start off with... EISH!!
Worth every cent.Big Grin

Love your cartoon pic! Yes nothing like a Syncro to force you to stay gainfully employed just to run the beast!
