HOW 2 - higher ratios for CW & P
Hi syncronauts

Can you advise me how to go about changing the Syncro's diff ratios. Is it the 2wd Crown Wheel & Pinion for front and rear or what is the route to go? I'll get the parts and get somebody to fit it, as I believe it is a specialised job.

Thanx

Bennie

Hi Bennie,

you need a front and rear CW and P, not cheap, last set i imported cost R19k before they landed here in SA, and were a used set from the USA.

i may have a longer ratio set available in a week or 2, will let you know, they are the ones from my WBX6, changing that back to standard, maybe we can just do a front diff swop, less work for you and then just have the gearbox rebuilt with the new Cw and p,

Doesn't seem to be a quick fix then for me, I want better fuel consumption!

Re: HOW 2 - higher ratios for CW & P
Longer ratios doesn't give you better consumption really because you need to accelerate more now than before so you end up burning the same if not more fuel

I would stick with standard ratios on a 5 cylinder engine, possibly only change to longer 4th gear which is relatively simple to do

2.6i Syncro Doka 1984
2.5i SSA PlayBus Syncro 1989
2.5i Factory 5 Cylinder Syncro 1991
2.0i Cox Camper Syncro 1989
2.0i Big Window Syncro 1992
2.6i 2WD Doka 1986
1.9TDI Golf Syncro 1991

Bus going in Monday for a new Splittronic system, should have the best tune as it is now done locollay by mr. Sitstronics. It is said that the Dictator (as mine is) and Gotech is crude systems more orianted for racing applications.

Will also look at 205/80R16" tyre combo swap rather then a ratio change, allinoll it will be more economical.

Hi Bennie, did you fit the Spitronic system as you mentioned? I have the old Bosch ECU on my 5cyl which still uses parallel injection etc.

If you did, was it money well spent?

Thx

i can tell you know, complete waste of money,

if you want electronic fuel injection, buy a 2.6 head and all its fuel injection stuff, works way better than any aftermarket stuff,

my 2 cents worth, see:http://syncrosa.co.za/forum/showthread.php?tid=2603&pid=19143#pid19143
