Golf VR6 conversion, why not?
Golf VR6 conversion on a Syncro bus................

Has anyone done it?
See you get a Gotech aftermarket system to run the engine, so why not?

Secondly, whats wrong with fitting the Golf 16v engines? Reliability? I know you have te rev the hell out of it and thats the disadvantige against the 8v motor.

Re: Golf VR6 conversion, why not?
I have seen a few VR6's fitted to syncros and 2WD buses.
You can buy a kit from Germany, Winkler in the companies name.
Worth the effort: NO
There are far better engines to fit if you want a bigger petrol engine. eg: 2.6 or 2.8 Audi V6

Re: Golf VR6 conversion, why not?
The 16V motors rev better than the 8V, but to the expense of torque, which is needed to pull the weight of the vehicle.
16V works great in a light vehicle, 8V has a power curve usefull to pull a bus.
The 2.0i AGG's power curve is the closest to the original 2.1i for which the gear ratios were calculated in the first place.
Change the engine power curve to much & the bus's performance could be a total disapointment.

Re: Golf VR6 conversion, why not?
VR6 parts are crazy expensive.

I was planning on buying a cheap Jetta VR6 Automatic with a dropped valve, but decided against it after seeing just what parts cost for the motor....

Re: Golf VR6 conversion, why not?
Great, thanx guys for the feedback. Think I will settle for the Golf 8V engine. Can always "fiddle" with the engine afterwords if I'am not happy with the performance.

Ja, die tegnologie op die boxer engines word nou te oud. Tyd om te verander

Re: Golf VR6 conversion, why not?
The VW 16V engines weren't great in the Golfs. They will be even worse in a bus. Russel I'm interested to hear your views on the Audi 2.8 V6 in comparison to the VR6. I think the power outputs are quite similar?
