Mr BHM
so what's the verdict on the improved torque and cruising capability? 1989 2.1 SYNCRO 2011 CB1000R Stuart said "They say in "Namibia" the only problem with a syncro is when it does get stuck nothing else can get there to tow it out" SYNCROnized OFF-Roading |

RE: My new big window Syncro
Daryl, I have no idea yet. Maybe Stuart can comment since he has driven it. I'll hopefully get my chance in 13 days time.
Stuart did say the motor pulls and cruises nicely at 110km/h. ![]() Life's a journey, not a race. Enjoy it. |

RE: My new big window Syncro
Tshirts: Will have some made again for this year's get together, but unfortunately it's going to be difficult to manage before the Zim trip. If anyone wants to take this over (Pretoria ) I will gladly let him/her have contact details of previous supplier. The design has been paid for and they have it on file so it should be easy if we go with the same design.
Stuart may have some left from last year, but the leftovers from last year were mainly odd sizes. It's not just a 4x4, it's a Syncro........ |

RE: My new big window Syncro
I had a chance to drive the bus on the short break I had and overall I am very happy. It does feel a bit pap on long uphills towing a trailer, but there are things to still sort out like the fan for the intercooler and some ducting. The revs are a bit high for my liking at 100km/h. It is around 3600rpm and I will look into fitting longer ratio gears when I have a chance. Fuel consumption was better than the Doka. I got 9.2 km/l driving to Welkom with a big, 3.5m trailer and using the aircon all the way. 95km/h on the GPS. Coming back with a full trailer, not heavy but bulky and using the aircon, I got 8.4km/l. It turns out the pipe on the inlet manifold was not clamped tight enough and it started blowing out when boosting, so obviously there was a loss of power, but the consumption isn't bad for towing such a big trailer. I need to do a check without the trailer.
Offroad the performance is spectacular. It will just sit and chug along in low gear at 900rpm and you just need to blip the throttle if you need a bit more power. Huge difference to the Golf which needs revs. It was a lot of money to spend, but for a vehicle that we are only going to use for offroad trips and maybe the occasional weekend camp, I think the diesel is a better choice. I am very curious to see how it performs on the Zim trip when loaded with all the camping equipment. ![]() Life's a journey, not a race. Enjoy it. |

I am busy playing with Arduino microchips and will be building a full digital instrument cluster in the nearby future. I am planning to get a pulse from the crank pulley to use for a tacho pulse. ![]() Life's a journey, not a race. Enjoy it. |
