Re: Zim Saamtrek
This is starting to look good,

i worked out some rough pricing:

Fuel R 5000-00 to R6500-00 depending on your vehicle's fuel usage, my campers does 6km/l so i will use R 6500-00 fuel approx
Camping 2x pax, approx $50/day so at most R5500-00.
food, as per you choices but you need to buy food at home anyway.
Rafting at Vic falls, full day approx $150-00, per person
viewing at the Falls zim Side $20 per person

so basically R 15k will cover the trip for 2x pax, one person will be slightly cheaper, about 20% less.

as for food, most thing are available in Zim, at slightly more cost than here in SA, bread, milk ,meat, fresh veg at all small towns, Vic falls has a nice Spar.
Chobe/Kasane has a Nice spar, Francistown has everything you need.

Re: Zim Saamtrek
We had a great braai/ meeting today, thanks to all that made it.

Basically the trip is on. One amendment to the itinenary, we will have one less day in vic falls to have a spare day in case of emergency. And or to come home on sat for a day of rest before work again.

We have suggested that all vehicles on the trip have a VHF radio fitted for comunication.
Also, in case of a breakdown all vehicles will stay together.
All vehicles must have a spares kit as per their own needs, oil, filters, plugs etc, basic tool kit and anything you feel may be needed.
A 2nd spare wheels is also suggested, my self and Paul use 245/75 R 15 tyres, please make sure you have a good spare.

For meals we will leave early on all travelling days after coffee etc, have a brunch on route then have a communal fire and braai in the evening. Each vehicle to bring 3 bags of charcoal brickettes for the braais.

Those still wanting to join the trip please decide before the 10th of Dec. We are going to try and book a private camp in Hwange.

Re: Zim Saamtrek
Hi all coming to Zim

here is a start to the list of stuff to bring:
service kit for your syncro, including, belts, oil for a complete oil change, and an air-filter, even if yours is new.
any spares you feel are needed
VHF radio, with orra frequencies
3x 4kg bags of charcoal brickettes
recovery gear, tow strap, snatch strap, shackles etc, not fair if you are stuck to use some one else's, especially if it breaks and they do break.
2x spare wheels with decent tyres, size to match your vehicle
food as per you choices, brunch each day, braai each evening
water, carry enough drinking water for your pax for 4-5 days, if stuck some water can become critical, so no wastage if stuck
spade, jack, wheel spanner, basic tool set
tyre pump and pressure gauge

this is what i can think of for now, please add if you think of anything,
my syncro has a winch if some one is really stuck.

also please have your vehicle serviced before the trip,

As Stu and lindy will already be in Botswana the 18th
Who wants to meet up either Bellabella side or by the Border to make a Groupe crossing as It will be the firstime for me doing the Camping Syncro thing
and want to try and make it as happy and easy as possible

My intention is to leave JHB around 4AM maybe earlier or later what do you guys suggest what is the best time to cross the Border to make our way to Palapye ?

Re: Zim Saamtrek
Hi Pierre,

We can drive together. Maybe meet up at Petroport (North of Pretoria) if there are any other people that want to convoy. I see it's Good Friday on the 18th, so the N1 North will be busy, it may be wise to get an early start.

I would say between 3am - 4am at Petroport and then to Potties (Mokopane) and then to Groblersbrug border post. If we are there early, it should hopefully not take too long to cross. From there it is a short drive to Palapye and it leaves enough time for refreshment breaks, breakdowns and maybe a drive around the Palapye area.

Just a suggestion. I'm sure there will be some other ones.
