Lower Ball Joints
Hi All
I need to replace my syncro's lower ball joints....1993 Caravelle.
The part listed at vw (251 407 187) also seems to fit the regular 2wd buses.
I also own a 2.5i 1996 model, and the ball joints are DEFINATELY not the same. on the syncro, the ball joint is fitted with the thread and nut facing downwards, on the 2.5i it is fitted facing upwards. Also, there is no taper section on the syncro ball joint, it has 2 locating sections, the top (which houses the ball) is 50mm OD, and the middle has another locating section OD 30mm. and then the thread.....no taper.

Has anyone encountered this problem?
kind regards
Scharl

ball joint is the same, hope you still have the syncro ones, they have a "loose" sleeve/bush that you need for the new ones.

I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid
Bad planning on your part does not make your issue an crisis to me
Bad workmanship by other garages does not entiltle you to better rates at me
Syncro, syncro , syncro and more syncro, this is the syncro way of life

RE: Lower Ball Joints
As Stuart says the ball joints are the same. Quite often when removing the ball joint the sleeve Stuart mentioned comes out the hub with the joint. You need to remove the sleeve from the ball joint and re insert it into the hub then re assemble.
