RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
NIce! I can't wait to get home so I can take mine for a spin off-road. Even if it is just a turn through Groenkloof or DeWildt.

Life's a journey, not a race. Enjoy it.

Video RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
Here is a Video of my Syncro at Atlantis the other day.

Normally cruise up this dune but got there at 12pm and the sand was very soft - only made it on the 4th attempt.

Enjoy!

RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
Hey Bruce
If you plan on going to the dunes again any time soon would you mind if I join you? I don't have a Syncro, just a 2WD 2.5 Kombi but with a difflock and small suspension lift. I would love to find out how it compares to the real thing.

Thanks

Howzit Colin

Ja for sure.
The first time I went my front CV was disconnected but I didn't know until I hit the sand - I was good in 3x4.
With really flat tires I think you will be fine in the morning so best go early while the sand is still dewy.
I would also be interested to see how your diff lock vehicle handles and I would like to see your lift - I have 2x 2wd's that I would like to lift.

Where did you get the diff lock box from?
Is it a modification by Ellerman's?

That would be great, thanks Bruce. I'm not expecting anything too spectacular from 2WD, just want to get a feel for the limits of it's capability.

Dean Levin supplied the difflock box, (He's a hell of a salesman, I went to his place for a doorlock and came out with a difflock!) but I assume it was prepared by Ehrlmans. I'm very pleased with it, it's a 5-speed with standard Microbus ratios and it has the factory brace. The main case is Syncro but it has the 2WD front end so no propshaft coupling. Russel Johnston installed it for me last year and also welded on an external spare wheel carrier. Later he did the suspension lift using a set of spacers I bought from Brickwerks in the UK, and fitted one of Ian Fairley's beautiful long-range fuel tanks.

So, whenever it suits you next to go to the dunes, please call me. 082 5035305. I'll bring a towrope!

Cheers
Colin

RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
I think a raised 2WD bus with Diff lock will go a long way.....

I am converting my 2WD doka to one with a diff lock too. Erlemens built the box for me.

Cheers,
Adri

RE: My White 1990 Caravelle Syncro
Got Some new stuff in the post

Low Speed Fan resistor

Linkage stuff

Linkage Elbow

Bentley Big Grin

On the Way to Sendelingsdrif

Richtersveld

Chance meeting at the border with a fellow Syncro traveller from Langebaan.

On the way to De Hoop
Actually no 4x4 or Diff Lock needed to get there.

Did however need Rear Diff Lock and 4x4 to get out of the Sand at the actual Camp Site

Fitted these bushings hoping to get rid of a weird jerking when accelerating after driving in gear with the foot off the pedal but turns out the bushes were not the problem.
