Plug Fowling - 2.6i
Looking for a reason for the #1 plug on the 2,6i fowling and causing vibration due to misfiring after just a few thousand km after fitting new plugs? I've come across this problem on other 2.6i engines, so it's not just mine.

As a matter of interest, what injection system are you using? MP9 or original 2.6 Bosch ecu?

RE: Plug Fowling - 2.6i
Hi Bernie,
from what i know, we are the only ones that have fitted Mp9 to s 5cyl. maybe Russel has as well,he did call me a while back on how to do it, i know Nick's bus has OE bosch ecu, not sure bout the other but am 99% sure it has, try new plug leads, guys, what plugs are you using, maybe to cold? stuart I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid Bad planning on your part does not make your issue an crisis to me Bad workmanship by other garages does not entiltle you to better rates at me Syncro, syncro , syncro and more syncro, this is the syncro way of life |

RE: Plug Fowling - 2.6i
Thanks Stuart. Was just interested. According to Dean the very last 2.6 engines had MP9 on as well.
I heard from somewhere that although you don't notice a difference on normal 4 cylinder cars, the Bosch 4 pronged plugs apparently makes a difference on the VW 5 cylinders. Maybe something to try? ![]() Life's a journey, not a race. Enjoy it. |

RE: Plug Fowling - 2.6i
Yes, my bus is still has the factory original Bosch ECU. I am using the factory specified Bosch BPR7ESZ-N plugs. The entire plug lead set is factory new replaced not that long ago after other misfiring issues. The new leads cured that misfire, but I've had fowled # 1 plugs on a few occasions and the guy around the corner with a Caravelle 2.6i has the same issues. The 4-electrode plugs are VERY expensive.

RE: Plug Fowling - 2.6i
I have had this on the 2.6 and we have narrowed down to the valve seats not seated correctly n passing abit of oil mine used to be erratic some kind of cold start n then runs fine.. Plug 3 was the issue on my bus..
Let me know if you found other culprit Regards Sol |
