Conversion kit
Hi all
I recently bought a complete SYNCRO 2L golf conversion kit from Gilo Engineering! The flywheel and adaptorplate fits well ,but the crossmember and mountings does not work on the syncro , despite additional adaptors supplied for the engine and crossmember mountings!
Once fitted after a battle the engine sits at an angle and the mountings was not even
tightened as the are about to tear off the bolt on plates !
Am i plain stupid or did anybody else experience similar problems ?

Hi Derick

Did you tell the people at Gilo its for a Syncro?
Youll need spacers to fit it in a Syncro.

You have the Bus, use it, enjoy nature!

The kit was ordered for a 2L Golf/Syncro and they supplied extra mounting spacers
but it does not fit ! Decided to get a custom built one from Frans rather than modifying
the Gilo set-up which is designed for std 2.1 Bus conversion ! Regards Derick.

Gilo's kit is for a 2wd bus, just need to space the crossmember down, we use them all the time, with out hassles

but then conversions are easy, it is just fitting a motor and it is done,

I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid
Bad planning on your part does not make your issue an crisis to me
Bad workmanship by other garages does not entiltle you to better rates at me
Syncro, syncro , syncro and more syncro, this is the syncro way of life

Thanks Stuart ! The purpose built crossmember from Frans need no spacers and is designed to easily accomodate the engine/gearbox cradle !
