replace rubber boots on front CV joints
hi guys,
I know I am only benefitting from you, but I need your help. There is no Syncro Hospital around here in Tanzania, I definitely would take my syncro there....

As the topic says, I need to replace both rubber boots on the CV joints of the front drive (left, but I guess 'right' is the same procedure).

I have done it on a T4 (front drive) some years ago and I managed well, but I cannot remember whether (and if yes, how) I took all the wheel hub apart (tie rod off, axle guide off, brake saddle off, drive shaft pressed out of wheel bearing) to change the rubber boots.

Can someone please explain in steps, what needs to be done? I am especially worried when my VW repair manual says, I need a special tool (VAG 1389) to press the shaft out of the hub, is that necessary?

@Stuart: would you mind sending me the spares, i.e. 4 rubber boots (in/out, left/right), grease, 4 clamp band fittings? My syncro is a 1989 14", if you need more info to select the right spares, let me know. You may still have my address from the last delivery? I pay by PayPal, if it is still OK.

thanks so much everybody,
Hajo

hi Nick,
thanks very much for the links to these nice videos, they answer almost all my questions and I feel quite confident to manage the job.

Hi Stuart,
... unless yo have to add something from your experience....

I have measured the drive shaft, it is 26mm as it should be on a 14" syncro according to my repair book..

looking forward to hear from you re new boots.

thanks everybody, I appreciate your invaluable advice.
ciao
Hajo
