Re: Original Syncro's List 2.1i only
hi Phil,

it was an FNB, mobile atm van, there were apparently 2 of them, were used in Rural Natal to get money to the locals. needed 4wd on some of those bad roads. The PO had windows made to fill the 2 large atm holes, them did the semi camper fit out. Please post some pics of it for all to see.

Re: Original Syncro's List 2.1i only
hi Tony

yes it was an ex SANDF panel van syncro, only one built by vw of SA from what we know. milage is low due to a motor replacement. we also fitted the sliding door with a window. was just to horrible to drive with out it and the original door was damaged by a fork lift. the motor was replaced less than 3000km before i got it. did not run because of a wiring problem. it is a rare and unique syncro. also has swivel front seats. and a fairly usable office/ camper set up.

Re: Original Syncro's List 2.1i only
Hi
We are in the Klein Karoo, recently bought a grey Syncro 2.1i Caravelle, off the original owner, who had replaced the engine (with another 2.1i) in Somerset West at the dealers (Philwest), 120 000kms ago. Big Grin We haven't done much with it yet, but planning a big trip...our previous VW was a 1976 2l (air cooled) Kombi - in 1998 we travelled from Cape town through Namibia, Botswana, Zim, Tete Corridor in Moz, Malawi, and back through Eastern and Central Zim, Swazi, East Coast of RSA to CT again, took around six months, and was an absolute jol. Only replaced the starter once - no troubles other than that.... Thinking of doing another epic trip soon, but with three kiddies along for the ride, we'll have to be a little more organised  ...

Re: Original Syncro's List 2.1i only
HI Mitchell,

Welcome. You will find the Syncro much more suitable and can now go to the places where the old kombi could not reach. Keep us posted on the planning and reports of the trip. Good luck. Post some pic's of your van please.
