2l 8v to 1.8T engine swap complexity
Hi all,

I'm very happy with a 2l 8v AGG engine in my syncro, but then I see these nice 1.8T AGU engine swaps driving around and it gets me thinking...

I'm sure going from WBX to 1.8T is a heck of a job, but do you know if it'll be easier/cheaper to go from a 2l 8v to a 1.8T? Are the adapter plates, engine mounts and hookups the same?

Could this actually be an economical swap once my AGG gets tired 5 years from now? A nice AGG is ~12k and an AGU is only 2k more at ~14k...

Note: I'mnot asking about going from, say, WBX to AGU, but rather from AGGor similar to AGU...

RE: 2l 8v to 1.8T engine swap complexity
Hi bud.

Only the adaptor plate and flywheel are interchangeable, all the rest needs to be custom made.
My advise is if you want to to it buy a running doner car with a 1.8t AGU motor. Do you have the wiring and ecu etc.

We have done one 1.8t with a stand alone ecu. It works but is a lot of work.. One plus with a stand alone is you can easily swop out coil packs to better units etc..

Remember the engine is only about a 1/4 of the total parts cost on any conversion. There is a lot more to it than just a motor swop.

IMHO an AGG is still a better option for reliability., ease of finding parts etc..

I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid
Bad planning on your part does not make your issue an crisis to me
Bad workmanship by other garages does not entiltle you to better rates at me
Syncro, syncro , syncro and more syncro, this is the syncro way of life

Thanks syncromad!

Yeah I figured an AGU swap from WBX would be a lot of work but thought I might save some trouble already having an AGG. Alas.

Ah well, happy with 8v!

Basically only usable parts are the adaptor plate and flywheel, maybe parts of the crossmember..

Rest is all different.
