Attakwa's Kloof pass
It 's a national monument. It crosses the Outeniqua mountains north of Mossel Bay and was one of the original "wapads" from the Karoo to the coast in the 1800's.

Anybody done it in a Syncro?

A

RE: Attakwa's Kloof pass
Well nobody here seems to have done Attakwas in a Syncro, or at least if they have they aren't telling, so I did it myself. Last weekend on my way home from the Knysna Celtic Festival.

A correction. The trail dates not from the 1800s but from 1689 if you please! It's probably the oldest wagon route known which is still "in use" although nowadays of course the users are mostly trail runners, pony trekkers, mountain bikers and the likes of us. The first pic was taken at the campsite at Bonniedale Farm where you take out the permit for the route.

On the 4WD association's rating system it's graded 2-3 mostly with some 3-4 sections. It's undoubtedly the most difficult drive I've attempted in my 2WD Kombi with difflock and suspension lift and is on the upper limit of the capability of the bus. The second pic gives you an idea of one of the rougher sections.

I don't think it would be advisable to attempt this route after rain. especially since the first 50m section is along a rocky flowing river bed.

Cheers
Colin

OK. Updated with a couple more pics,
