Best diff ratio and 4th gear with AGG?
Dear Syncronauts in SA,
since it unfortunately didn't work to buy a reliable Syncro in SA last year, I'm going to bring one of mine along from Germany to do several trips in southern Africa. At the moment I'm installing the AGG engine (sleeping) and want to keep my 215/75/15 BFG tyres. The original gearbox with difflocks has the 4.86 diff and a 0.85 fourth gear, but I could have one with a 5.43 diff and a 0.78 fourth gear and could change to the 0.85 fourth. What are your experiences with the AGG? Which combination would you recommend, if main aspect is torque in the sandy/muddy parks ? The stock ratio in SA- Syncros is the 5.43? (Do you also have the 4.86/5.83) Which clutch would you recommend, from the tdi or the original 2.1 WBX one? Thanks a lot and best regards from Germany Michael |

4.86 is to long for an AGG. Even for road use unless flat. 5.43 is what you want.

RE: Best diff ratio and 4th gear with AGG?
AGG works great with the standard SA 5.43 ratio and the 0.85 4th, if fitted with Mp 9 Fi, then the rtev limiter is set to 6500 rpm, and that is approx 160km/h in with with 15" wheels. very few 4.86 ratio syncros in Sa, Std was 5.43 with front and rear diff locks.
it will cruise at 120-130 on a flat road, we use the 2.1 228mm clutch on our conversions stuart, I will have a std, 2.1 syncro for sale soon, with both lockers, 15" wheels, +2783 629 9951 I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid Bad planning on your part does not make your issue an crisis to me Bad workmanship by other garages does not entiltle you to better rates at me Syncro, syncro , syncro and more syncro, this is the syncro way of life |
